Building a website that has great content can be easy. Many are unsure of what they are looking for as far as content goes, but it is not as hard as you may think it is.  But there is not any magic pill that you can take to make a great web site that people will visit again and again, however I can give you some tips that might assist you in biulding  a site that can gain a reputation.

  1. Easy - Make it known that it’s easy to do business with you, as well as make navigating through your site easy.
  2. Descriptive Tag Line - Make it easily known what your company does. A lot of times when someone finds a website and it doesn’t tell them what or how they can help often they just continue on with their search, overlooking that site.
  3. Know your Audience - Remember who you target market is (age, state, religion etc.) Also remember what type of Internet access some people will be trying to access your site with some options include dial up, broadband or WAP (Wireless Application Protocol which is used by cell phones).
  4. Benefits - Let people know how many years of experience you have and what that espericence is going to do for them, not just how long you’ve been in business.  Some key points to touch may include: Why should they choose you? How they can benefit from working with your company (how they will feel)? and What type of experience can you offer to them as opposed to your competitors?
  5. Avoid lots of text - People tend to skim websites, lots of info will be skipped if you put too much all in one spot. Keep it simple and informative. Using bullet points is a good form to use if you have a lot of information you want people to see.
  6. Keep Design Simple - Excess use of colors, font, graphics, or flash can create a jumble that keeps people attention from focusing on the information you want them see. A straight forward approach can make a site more professional looking.
  7. Be consistent - Each page should have the same look (colors, graphics, layout, etc.). If not the user might assume that they’ve gone to another site and overlook your site.
  8. Relevance - Don’t cover more than one topic per page. This might overwhelm a user or find that you are unprofessional. This also counts for the links that you might add to your site (ex. if one page is about Golfing don’t put in a link about Dog training unless its about training your dog to get the golf balls from a pond.). Also make sure you have keywords in your content so Search Engine place your site under those terms.
  9. Update Links Frequently -  Make sure that all your links are frequently updated and changed so that they can remain operable. No one likes to click on a link and be brought to a screen that say the site can not be found.
  10. Make Contacting You Easy - Allow people to be able to contact you either by e-mail or phone.  Usually the best place to put contact info is on the upper right hand side of your site. Be sure to contact them back within a timely manner, usually 24 hours is appropriate, or else people might be nervous of how legitimacy of your company.

While building your website, if you use these tips and remember to market your site appropriately this can ensure a reputable website with a lot of traffic. You don’t have to follow these tips religiously, just use them as guidelines to help  you get your company out there making profit over the internet. Good Luck!!!
